The Saxon Academy of Sciences and Humanities cooperates with national academies of other countries as well as with a number of research institutions world wide.

Czech Academy of Sciences

The Czech Academy of Sciences and the Saxon Academy of Sciences and Humanities cooperate in a number of research topics.

Polish Academy of Sciences

The cooperation agreement with the Polish Academy of Sciences was signed in autumn 2025. The cooperation is to cover various research topis both in the sciences and the humanities. Topics of particular interest include history, artificial intelligence, dynamic processes, biodiversity, and climate.

Spanish Institute of Historical and Judicial Sciences

The Saxon Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the Spanish Institute of Historical and Judicial Sciences have jointly hosted international conferences in the past focussing on the Spanish Monarchy and the Holy Roman Empire:

Cooperation in international Projects

Buddhist Murals of Kucha on the Northern Silk Road — involving scientists from various European countries, China, Japan and the United States of America

In 2025, Saxon Academy Secretary General Dr. Christian Winter and Prof. Zhao of Zhejiang University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing the cooperation of the two insitutions concerning the academy's Buddhist Murals of Kucha project. The cooperation includes the translation of published and future volumes of the Leipzig Kucha Studies into Chinese. The cooperation is also important for significantly expanding the body of image material contained in the Kucha Murals Information System (KMIS).

The project Encyclopedia of Jewish History and Culture involved more than 500 authors from Germany and abroad. Its was completed in 2025.

International Conferences

Apart from the conferences within the cooperations and projects mentioned above, the Saxon Academy of Sciences and Humanities hosts international conferences in regular intervals. In the past, these included:

Diffusion Fundamentals conference series

The biannual international conference series Diffusion Fundamentals is a well-established space for scientists of various disciplines to exchange ideas in the broad field of diffusion and spreading phenomena and present their research. The conferences take place under the auspices of the Saxon Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Leipzig, together with the University of Leipzig and are closely connected to the Comission Diffusion in Nature, Technology and Society of the Saxon Academy.
In 2023, the conference took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and thus for the first time in Asia (conference report).

Within the past 20 years, over 1,000 articles have been published in the associated peer-reviewed open access publication Diffusion Fundamentals — with more to come.
