Prof. Dr. Jürgen Caro, a Corresponding Member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences and Humanities held a lecture about novel membranes at the 2025 World Laureates Forum in Shanghai on 25 October. Membranes of this kind are used in energy-efficient catalytic processes. Members of the academy’s Diffusion Commission played a relevant part in the publication of a technical report on the quantification of mass transfer in nanoporous materials which can be used in high-tech applications. And finally, a special edition of Diffusion Fundamentals marks its 20th anniversary.

Polish Academy of Sciences and Saxon Academy of Sciences and Humanities sign cooperation agreement
The Polish Academy of Sciences and the Saxon Academy of Sciences and Humanities have signed an agreement regarding their future cooperation. Among the potential topics which were discussed are the historical sciences, artificial intelligence, dynamic processes as well as biodiversity and climate.

Two organ works written by young J.S. Bach identified
Leipzig Bach Archive director Peter Wollny has succeeded in identifying two previously anonomous organ works as composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. They were presented in a livestreamed official ceremony in the presence of the Minister of State for Culture, Wolfram Weimer, and the Mayor of Leipzig, Burkhard Jung, the city of Leipzig together with the worldwide Bach community.

Randall Q. Snurr Receives Humboldt Research Award
Prof. Dr. Randall Q. Snurr has been awarded a Humboldt Research Award by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The researcher at Northwestern University (Evanston, USA) is a Corresponding Member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Leipzig. The award will bring him back closer to his academy colleagues in Leipzig and their joint resarch on diffusion in nanoporous materials.
