DIKUSA – Interconnecting digital cultural data in Saxony

In daily research practices, the low-threshold digital collection and integration of knowledge poses varying degrees of challenges for non-university humanities research institutions in Saxony. The goal of this collaborative project is to develop a corresponding technical infrastructure and to strengthen the participating institutions’ capacity for digitally capturing archival materials and object data, linking them, creating visualizations, and aligning them with authority records.

To achieve this, a technical foundation comprising several components is being developed in cooperation with KompetenzwerkD and the Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB): a central knowledge base with referencing and reconciliation services as a data hub, a "toolbox" of reusable software components for data processing, and services for visualization using historical maps.

This will also enable an attractive public presentation of the subprojects. The technical infrastructure is being developed within the framework of six subprojects in the fields of History and other disciplines (medieval to contemporary, Art History, Archaeology, Area Studies, Sorbian Studies, Museum Studies etc.) and Digital Humanities, each focusing on cultural data about places, people, and artifacts from the Middle Ages to the present, explored through specific research questions.
